Author Catherine Pulsifer said, “Inspiration and motivation may come from others, but true inspiration comes from within.” When it comes to entrepreneurship, hearing about and witnessing the success of other small business owners and entrepreneurs can provide you with both inspiration and motivation to tackle your own small business hopes and dreams. If they can do it, then you can do it too.
And author Ryan Help said, “Give 200% in everything that you do, and you'll inspire others to do so as well. By working and doing your best, you'll be proud of yourself and have no need to envy other people.” Once you form your small business, you may begin to inspire the next round of aspiring entrepreneurs without even trying.
Below is our list of some inspiring business stories from entrepreneurs who have surely inspired plenty of others to chase after their dreams.
theSkimm
theSkimm, founded in 2012 by Danielle Weisberg and Carly Zakin, began as a simple subscription email newsletter digesting the top news stories in an easy-to-read style. That simple newsletter has blossomed into a media company. In addition to their daily (Monday through Friday) email newsletter, theSkimm now has a podcast “Skimm’d From The Couch," news show “Skimm This,” as well as a book How To Skimm Your Life set to publish in June. Weisberg and Zakin successfully formed a business while sitting on their couch, and now they own a media empire.
The Wing
In 2016, founders Audrey Gelman and Lauren Kassan wanted to create a women’s-only community and networking space, so they the formed The Wing — a coworking and community space for women. Originally, there was only one location in New York, and the goal was to advance women by gathering them together. They have certainly succeeded there, with eight spaces in top cities, plans to add three more global locations and more than 6,000 members.
Zoom
Founded by Eric Yuan, Zoom is a communication platform for video conferencing, web hosting, webinars and screen sharing that's used by more than 750,000 companies. But Zoom didn’t start off with that sort of following right out of the gate. Yuan came to the U.S. in the ‘90s to hop on the internet boom, but he was denied a visa eight times. When he finally got approved, he worked in Silicon Valley and eventually founded Zoom.
