There are entrepreneurs who love the idea of building companies, and then there are builders who simply can't help themselves. They see a problem, start solving it and keep going until the thing works. Erik Treutlein falls squarely into the second category.

Before becoming president of Bizee, Treutlein founded Legalinc Corporate Services, a business that helped more than 100,000 entrepreneurs navigate business formation and compliance before it was acquired by LegalZoom. He later spent more than seven years at LegalZoom leading customer success, compliance services and business operations, giving him a unique perspective on what entrepreneurs need after they've launched their companies.

For Treutlein, entrepreneurship has never been about filing paperwork. It's about building something.

"I’ve always been a builder. What interests me most is taking something complicated, understanding why it works the way it does, and figuring out how to make it dramatically better. That applies to companies, products, teams and customer experiences"

That philosophy is helping shape Bizee's next chapter.

For more than two decades, Bizee has helped entrepreneurs take the first step toward business ownership. Today, the company's focus extends well beyond formation. Through compliance services, educational resources, startup guidance and technology designed to simplify the entrepreneurial experience, Bizee is working to become a long-term partner for founders as they grow their businesses.

Treutlein believes that's exactly where the industry is headed.

“For a long time, our industry treated business formation as the service itself. The reality is formation is just the starting point. The much bigger opportunity is handling everything that comes after to keep a business running. The next generation of business services should handle those ongoing obligations as one continuous experience, rather than forcing entrepreneurs to manage a series of disconnected transactions.”

Having been a founder himself, Treutlein understands that the hardest challenges often begin after the excitement of launching a business fades. Growth brings new responsibilities, new regulations and new decisions that demand time and attention. Removing unnecessary friction from that process has become a central part of his leadership philosophy.

"Entrepreneurs don't need more complexity. They need partners who are willing to solve problems for or with them. Entrepreneurs shouldn’t have to become experts in government processes, compliance requirements and administrative workflows just to run a business. The best experience is one where more of that work simply gets handled for them, so they can focus their time and energy on actually building the business. If we can make it easier for someone to build a successful business, we're doing our job."

That builder's mentality extends beyond individual products. Bizee is focused on creating a more connected experience across the life of a business, using technology, automation and increasingly AI to reduce the administrative burden that entrepreneurs have historically been left to manage themselves. It influences how Bizee thinks about customer experience, education and the role it plays in supporting entrepreneurs over the long term. From Startup Central and educational content to videos, podcasts and practical business resources, the company continues to invest in helping entrepreneurs make better decisions throughout the life of their businesses.

Treutlein sees that commitment as an extension of the entrepreneurial spirit itself.

“One of the questions I keep coming back to is: if we were designing this industry today, with the technology we have today, would we build it the same way? In a lot of cases, the answer is no. That creates a huge opportunity to rethink the experience from the entrepreneur backwards.”

It's an outlook that reflects Treutlein's own career. Every stop along the way has centered on solving problems for entrepreneurs, improving the systems that support them and building organizations that remove obstacles rather than create them.

For Bizee, that approach represents more than a leadership philosophy. It's a reminder that every LLC filing represents a person betting on an idea, a family investing in a future or a founder taking a chance on themselves. Helping those entrepreneurs succeed doesn't end with the paperwork. In many ways, that's where the work truly begins.
